H Beams are steel beams made of rolled steel in the shape of the alphabet "H." They are fabricated as built-up units. The flanges are welded to the web to form the H-section. H-beams are also called wide flange beams.
H-beams have greater web thickness compared to I-beams. This increased thickness gives strength to H-beams. The cross-section of H-beams is more optimized than I-beams, giving it a reasonable strength-to-weight ratio, i.e., more strength per unit area. They possess a greater surface area on the cross-section, hence high strength.

H-beam is an incredibly strong structural steel member. As the cross-section of this beam resembles the capital letter "H", it is known as H-beam. The picture below shows a typical example of an H-beam.
Advantages of H-beam:
1. High structural strength
2. The design style is flexible and rich
3. The structure is light in weight
4. High structural stability and high degree of industrialized production
5. It saves labor and materials, and is convenient for machining, etc.
